Forty Texts on Watchfulness
Inner attention and remembrance of death
Forty compact, practical texts focused on the connection between inner attention and remembrance of death. Philotheos writes from the Sinaite tradition, where watchfulness was practiced in the solitude of the desert monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai. The texts are shorter and more concentrated than Hesychios' longer treatise on the same theme. Useful as a focused supplement to the main watchfulness texts, particularly for the distinctive emphasis on mortality as an aid to attentiveness.
