Kallistos Telikoudes

The Patriarch's Voice

14th century Constantinopolitan

Key Contribution

Texts on prayer attributed to Patriarch Kallistos I of Constantinople, representing the hesychast tradition in its most institutionally authoritative voice.

Kallistos Telikoudes is associated with texts on prayer attributed to Patriarch Kallistos I of Constantinople (in office 1350-53 and 1355-63). These texts were included in the second edition of the Philokalia (1893) as additional material not found in the original 1782 publication. They address the practice of prayer within the context of the established hesychast theology, after the councils that vindicated Palamas's teaching.
