Faith — trust that makes sustained practice possible
Diadochos of Photiki defined faith as "dispassionate understanding of God" — a definition that reframes faith from blind belief to clear-eyed perception. In the Philokalia, faith is not the opposite of knowledge but its foundation — the trust that makes sustained practice possible even when immediate results are not visible.
Faith, in this tradition, is not primarily a list of propositions you assent to. It is the disposition of someone who has seen enough of the path to trust that the path leads somewhere.
