Parresia

Intimate communion — the freedom to approach without fear

Parresia literally means "frankness" or "freedom of speech" — the confidence to approach someone without fear. In the Philokalia, it describes the condition of free, unobstructed communion with God — the intimacy that Adam possessed before the fall and that the saints regain through grace.

This is the opposite of the fear, shame, and distance that characterize the unredeemed relationship with the divine. The person who has been healed through sustained practice and grace can approach God with the confidence of a child approaching a parent — not because they've earned the right, but because the relationship itself has been restored.
