Remembrance of God — continuous awareness of the divine presence

Not simply "thinking about God" but a sustained state of recollectedness in which attention remains centered on the divine presence. The Philokalia's glossary describes it as "the opposite of the state of self-indulgence and insensitivity." The Jesus Prayer is the tradition's primary vehicle for maintaining this remembrance.
