Not simply "thinking about God" but a sustained state of recollectedness in which attention remains centered on the divine presence. As the Philokalia's glossary puts it: "the opposite of the state of self-indulgence and insensitivity." The Jesus Prayer is the tradition's primary vehicle for maintaining this remembrance.
